In partnership with United Community Action Partnership (UCAP), ATLAS provides a safe place to stay for families with children experiencing homelessness. In April 2017, the place where the families stay was moved from a local hotel to a small two-bedroom house that ATLAS rents.
ATLAS coordinates volunteers to support the families staying in the house. The volunteers, which include a few small groups from local churches as well as a few individuals, connect with the in various ways on a weekly basis to let them know they are not alone and that there is hope.
The families work with case managers from UCAP to find employment and locate their own housing. UCAP also assists the families with financial literacy training and connecting them with any other services they may need. The families are responsible for taking care of the property during their stay, including mowing lawn and shoveling snow.
You can support the families staying in the house by volunteering, signing up to be a prayer partner and praying for the them, or through your financial support to ATLAS.
